This is my favorite - I really wish it would have gone to full production. The reverse (2nd pic on the right is my favorite side)
I would have to say the Obverse of the Lincoln Cent. This coin is dripping with art nouveau composition. With high detail in the beard and ear of Lincoln highlight other portrait details like the bow tie that really show if a coin is well struck. Contrast that with wide open fields on left and right that narry a hairline can hide, much less a bag mark or hit. The long tailed nine's, three's and fives in the date are unique and marry perfectly to the lettering on the reverse. With "IN GOD WE TRUST" rings BOOM< BOOM< BOOM and LIBERTY says it all without seeming crowded. AHH, I never get bored with that coin, especially the early dates, which were sculpted by craftsmen at the top of their game long before efficiency experts and computers.
That is not a bad choice and that reverse is very underrated. Include the Nevada State Quarter reverse. But perhaps the best is this
Thanks Guys, Wish it was a 64 but the price on this as a MS63 BN was too good to pass up. So this is the only 63 in my Registry set. So far....
I was never overly found of this design, almost too cartoonish. However, I noticed now that it distinctly looks like a Microraptor.
Interesting five cent piece Budgood, is this a released coin or something published for future speculation ?
It is a pattern. Basically a prototype coin that has been struck for people to see what it would look like and then possibly produced as a circulating coin.
My CURRENT favorite design is, suprising enough, Judd-72: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1124&Lot_No=3487
Most of mine are in that 63 sweet spot for cost/value also. You just can't beat getting a 150 year old copper in that 63 condition for $100 to $150 bucks. That is until you try to get the later dates
Boy, isn't that the truth. I'm working on a 64 registry set, almost there, need a '72. Probably should have kept the limit at 64. If I could find a 63 at the right price, I'd sure consider it. Here's the reverse.......
I dont really mess with the registry's so mine are more like (many 63's, some 64's and a 65 or two). As for a full set I'm missing the last two years now I believe. Those are just a bugger to get.
