I voted classic Jeff but if you include the no stars half dime I would vote for that. The buffalo is to crowded for my taste, I like a lot of breathing space in the fields. Lehigh amazing coins as always.

I'm guessing that Lehigh is probably the premier Jefferson collector in the world. I wish I had the self discipline to stick to one particular series and put a top quality collection together. Hats off to you Lehigh!!!

    Nice coins!

I too have a thing for Liberty nickels. Always have for some reason.
After that it's Shield, Buffalo and Jefferson.

Ah, I see it now :) Photobucket hasn't been loading everything all of the time either, guess that's what we get for free though.

Lehigh, I was reading your post thinking it belonged as it's own thread, but you made me laugh when you said "but it certainly cant be considered my fault. Blame the OP, once I start talking about Jefferson Nickels, I cant stop." So all is forgiven; I understand now. You have some awesome coins there. Thanks for sharing.

The Indian/Buffalo got my vote, but just by a hair over the shield with rays. I do like the higher relief of the older ones. Agreed with the comments that the WJ series do not have much relief, making them blah. But I have to say, evertime I look at my proof WJ samples, I think "wow" and "what beautiful designs".

Incredible selection and great story on the 52 MS67.:hail: Somebody lost some serious money between the first auction and the second on that one. More than anything, I'm jealous that you fund your coin habit in AC. If I could stay away from that place, I might be able to finish my sets faster!
Anyway, you are, of course, wrong about Jeffersons being the finest 5 Cent design. The Jefferson is a nice design, but in the U.S. the buffalo is king. Not that the Jefferson should feel slighted, I think the Buffalo is the finest of all U.S. designs.
I just got a new computer and am not very computer-savvy to start with, but I am trying to attach images of my 36 Proof (PCGS PR67). It is my icon and one of my nicer pieces.

I love the buffalo nickel.. but My Jefferson collection is my favorite. I am currently working on a completing my buffalos. My Jefferson collection is complete including varities and errors. Most of my nickel collection are not TPG. I want to start that process to complete maybe a registry set. I will admit like a blonde ... a nickel will always turn my attention....no matter what type it is. LOL I have always thought that nickels were and are the work horse of the american coinage. Besides as posted by me many times before.... as a kid a nickel was a lot of money! OH the buying power of a nickel in the 50's & 60's....a coke , an ice cream cone , five pices of penny candy......heck two bits got ya a hamburger, fries and a shake......OMG I'm OLD! LOL Paddy

    You know what I voted.

I use an 8" buffalo nickel (reverse) mouse pad at this computer. The sunken aspect of them allowing for that high relief give them a special place in my book. My avatar is my rose toned MS-66 1938-D/S.

It was the only set I worked on when I was into coins as a kid. I used to go to the coin shop with my dad or my grandfather and they'd get me a couple for the album now and then. I ended up selling the set in H.S. for something. Didnt think I'd ever collect again anyway. I don't remember what I had, but I do remember I was within 13 coins of finishing the set. I'd hate to remember what I sold it for. One of the stupidest moves I ever made.

So, I started another set this year in an IS album and I've gotten some nice ones for it. It's an important set to me to finish. I love them. And it's a relatively easy series to learn how to grade.

For second place I like the Liberty heads. They're one of the nicest uncelebrated coins out there. Still don't own one but that will change.

At a respectable 3rd place, I put the classic Jefferson. Well struck ones can be impressive.

For the updated versions, I would have rather seen them change the design to something entirely different and just go with it. Non-Thomas Jefferson. Change to something. That'd be too imaginative though.

    Description:
Milky golden centers are surrounded by a melange of iridescent colors inlcuding lavender, lime green, sapphire, lemon yellow, and tangerine. A fully lustrous and minimally abraded example with a solid strike that just misses the 5FS designation. The 1943-S is the most challenging war nickel to locate with rainbow toning.

Jeez, I think I want to eat it!
