lol! I was in an experimental phase..i wanted another hideous trademark background, but decided to stick with the gnarly old table top.
Until recently I believed this last one was a coin of the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka (272-232 BC) but now see the comment on Coin India that we are not so sure of how the various symbols relate to the various rulers and calling all of them just Mauryan. http://coinindia.com/galleries-maurya.html It is hard to find examples that have all five symbols clear but specialists seem to be able to identify them a lot better than I can. We talked about them before: http://www.cointalk.com/threads/ancient-ashoka-of-india.233579/
princeofwaldo => sadly, we've already zoomed-past this century (two months ago) ... but happily, I've never cared too much about rules, so to me => you're right on time, brother!! (welcome!!) That is a very cool piece (I have bid on a few similar examples, but I've never walked away as the owner of one, yet) ... thanks again for jumpin' on-board and showing us your beauty!!
Hey kids => we're finally home!! BRING-ON THE 21st-CENTURY A.D. 2004 Remembrance Day Silver Proof 25 Cent Piece 2011 Gold Proof 25 Cent Piece (Cougar) 2007 Olympic Wheel-Chair Curling "Mule" 25 Cent Piece
The END is here...its been fun, thank you all that posted, very nice coins.. My first 21st. century coin.. 2012 Polar bear $20
It seems that no one has a coin of the 21st century. The things shown simply do not strike me as coins since they were made to be collected and not spent at their face value. Is there no coin worth collecting from the regular, available for face value, issues?
You all know I don't collect modern coins any longer, but last year I won a numismatic contest on another (not named) forum. I won several numismatic prizes from the participants. Here is one of those prizes I believe is a coin by the standards suggested by Doug. It's kinda neat with the crocodile and shark on the reverse.
=> not true, my usually correct coin-friend ..... my 2007 Olympic Wheel-chair curling coin was part of a circulating set => there were 22.4 Million of these wheel-chair coins minted and circulated (although, there were very, very few of my sweet "mule" variations) ........ my "mule" has the olympic symbol, rather than the paralympic symbol
I fail to see why we can't have more circulating issues since they already have the designs. The USA did well with the 2009 Lincoln cents in four designs but I guess they were too popular since few seem to be in circulation. The state quarters were exactly what I am suggesting but most of the designs left me unimpressed. As a collector of ancients, I could only wish for a series of timely, news related coins and realize that would cost extra but any design that has been in circulation longer than I have been could be said to be ready for retirement.
sorry Doug, I'm sipping wine, so I didn't quite understand whether you agreed that my 2007 coin was actually a legit circulating coin, or whether you thought your initial statement was correct? (*burp*) => oh, but I agree that on its own, I may not have chosen this coin for its "cool looks" (although I obviously respect and cheer-on the athletes!!) ... go team!!
speakin' of the licoln cents from 2009, here's mine.. i like these, everytime i see one in decent condition in circulation, i snag it. here's a super pretty nickle, i think this is "cameo proof" ...or is it "gem proof"? whatever, it sure is shiny. see my (or my wife's a should say) camera? here's a 1 yuan from china that ENG gave me... this coin has a neat edge.. "RMB"...what's that stand for? what a fun thread, this one has been a blast!
I believe that this coin type was put into circulation in Canada from 2003 to 2006. Of course, this particular example is made with some silver & gold doesn't circulate but it sure is pretty IMO.
