The past two weeks i've had several coins of mine get posted on wildwinds. Some I knew I was gonna send to be posted but a couple of my purchases that are a year & older I saw were not on it so it was a pleasant surprise to see they were accepted by Dane. So I figured since we have threads dedicated to other subjects, why not have one for Wildwinds just for fun. Claudius (41 - 54 A.D.) Attaleia, Pamphylia Æ 19 O: Bare head left. Good stuff Mat, as always. I suppose I could submit a bunch of Nabataeans, but I doubt anyone would care.
I have two, but like most, I haven't submitted any others. 1. Crescent in left field. Mintmark PLN. Toone 194; Bourton-on-the-Water hoard 1464-1466 3.2, 21mm RIC VII 144 2. Interesting topic! I have none to post but thanks for the reminder-- I have a few that should be submitted as there currently are none on ww or coinproject. Steve-- you should submit your Kisthene coin!
As far as I know I have just one, but on the other hand, I didn't check any further Vitellius, Denarius Rome mint, July - December 20, AD69 A VITELLIVS GERMAN IMP TR P, Laureate head of Vitellius right XV VIR SACR FAC, Tripod-lebes with dolphin lying right on top and raven standing right below 3.43 gr, 16-18 mm Ref : RCV # 2201var, Cohen cf # 110 et suiv, RIC I # 86 (this example illustrated in Wildwinds) Q
When I first looked at the description of this coin, I read the reverse legend as XV VIR SCAR FACE and thought... whoah, cool, 1st century mafia. Now all I can think of when I look at the portrait is that it resembles a mob boss's mugshot.
I have this sweet baby on Wildwinds: Constantius I AE Follis Date: 301-303 AD Diameter: 28.5 mm Weight: 10.1 grams Obverse: CONSTANTIVS NOB C - Laureate and cuirassed bust left, holding sceptre over left shoulder Reverse: GENIO POPVLI ROMANI - Genius standing left, holding patera over altar and cornucopiæ; B right, PLC in ex. (Lugdunum mint) Reference: RIC 167a Other: Superb and bold portrait ... I know that I have a couple more on Wildwinds, but sadly I've forgotten which coins?
ahaha ... ummm, perhaps? (I forget) Actually smart guy, the reason is more associated with the fact that I myself haven't ever sent a coin to Wildwinds ... I merely buy coins from Batman and/or others who have sent them in to Wildwinds. Therefore, because I didn't go through the process, the ol' coin-memories aren't etched-into my brain.
Sweet Vitellius Cue. Still need him myself. Cool portrait on the constantius I, I need him too but being from an era where I find the coins boring, I dont look hard at them.
