I was able to make some arrangements with Ian at Great Collections to play with some pretty cool stuff at the ANA show.

All 3 of them are amazing. But, I have to agree with Green.

Hey @messydesk, is that 94 dollar straight-graded? As attractive as the coin is, the marks outside the stars between 7:00 - 10:00 don't look mint-made to me.

You must have played well. Those are great looking coins.

Ian is pretty cool. Easy to work with and fun to talk coins with.

The dollar is likely the first dollar struck by the mint. It's graded PCGS SP66 and sold in 2013 for just over $10 million. It has both a silver plug and planchet adjustment marks from the mint trying to get the silver weight just right.

Note that it's the Paquet reverse. Two known. This one's graded 67 and last sold for $7.2 million in 2021.

    Understood.

Those “adjustment marks” in the area I’m referring to are nothing at all like the others on the coin.

Unless first attempts at adjusting the weight of this coin produced the aha moment one needed to run off and get a bastard file to finish the job, I have a hard time accepting the inconsistency.

It was a goo story at the time, and sort of still is, but is still thought of by many Hobbyists...the best of the best and the average Joe Blow collector..... to require a suspension of disbelief when contemplating this piece.

I fall into that category, and full disclosure: I admire the Who's Who of the hobby that studied and advised on this piece, and have a high level of the respect for Collector for all he did/does for the Hobby, and not just a bout the Wampum.

It did generate a lot for the Hobby at the time, which definitely needed a publicity shot in the arm, and spurred a tremendous level of interest.

Shoot, I've always prided myself with good taste..7.2 million is a tad bit out of my reach though. :)

Yeah, me too. I'd have to scrape up the cash for the application fee for a loan for a down payment on the buyers fee on that one.

I have had coins fall under the lens, Just because ,What does it really look like, The 61'
I am just a lustful observant. It looks like what we used to grade better than gem.
