Well, here's the next update. After several more bizarre exchanges with the auction house, including this one - "Dear Customer, Thank you for your e-mail. Our office is actually closed. We will be back on the 5th of April 2016. Happy Easter! Your Hess Divo Team" I'm happy to report that I finally got my coin! They were refusing to send it till they got their coins back but, after some outstanding, generous, thoughtful help from one of the kind members here, my coin was shipped and I received it as pictured in the auction. (I won't presume to name who helped me since we communicated through PM) I asked HessDivo to provide me with a prepaid shipping service to return the coins sent to me in error. They said they would not do that and, instead, to ship the coins back registered mail. They said they would reimburse me up to 25 CHF and, if it was more, to contact them for approval. I suppose they expected me to go to the post office, wait on line, have the package weighed and priced and then return home and email them for approval on the shipping. In any case, I just returned the coins today for a cost of $36.45 US, well over my approved spending cap. I look forward to finding out how this saga will end. At the very least, I have learned quite a few valuable lessons that I won't soon forget.
@Nemo I am glad you finally got your coin, but sorry that you had to go through so much drama to get it. Please post a photo
The coin is extremely nice. Worth the trouble? Your call, but I don't think I would deal with this seller again.
That is an exceptional specimen of a type usually seen worn. I would see learning about the seller as a valuable secondary point. At least, you aren't tempted to send it back.
Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm glad you agree the coin was worth the battle. Unless the seller did something extraordinary to win back my confidence, I wouldn't dream of having anything to do with them. I also don't think I'll ever do business with a seller that will only accept a bank transfer. There is 0 recourse if you have a problem.
I agree about bank transfers. It may be I do not spend enough, but that option seems to be too pricey for me. Nice coin. If you did not have a chance for a similar coin at a reasonable price, then I'd say it was worth the wait. Most of us have wish lists that take a while to complete.
Wow!! => great coin!! (congrats, Nemo) ... "all good things come to those who wait" Okay sure, I certainly don't follow that advice, but it's still a pretty cool saying!
That is indeed worth the battle and the long wait. Both condition and style are superb. I'm glad it arrived safe and sound.
I concur with the majority. A very nice example of the type, and a valuable lesson learned about the seller.
I bought a couple coins recently from a U,S. auction house who would only take checks and wires for purchases over $2500. I will make a point never to bid on high value targets in their auctions again!
