Of course as AJ stated, a hoard could be found at any time/ or some where in a safety deposit box of a long deceased relative/ or some where unknown(to auctioneers) in a collection. It was the same story with my butterfly coll./ a species thought to have been extinct, somehow is found to be alive and well.
