CONGRATULATIONS Curtisimo! I wish I could show up and make an ass of myself at your wedding reception, I bet it well be fun! I think this coin is a marriage commemorative of Aretas IV and Shaqalacakbingboom of Nabatea.
...Shaqalacakbingboom of Nabatea... I´ve got it! I think so... (I´ve read it three times...): Shaqalacakbingboom of NBAbatea...
I am definitely getting the better deal... not sure what she was thinking but it's too late now... muahahaha
Congratulations Curtisimo , lovely lady you caught there. I made the same honeymoon trip 30 years ago , although I cant remember that Roman temple overthere
It should be against the law to make such a beautiful couple... So... Does she have any single sister... errr, third cousin... anything?
Congratulations @Curtisimo I wish you two the best. Those are some nice photos from the Nashville Parthenon, though I dont remember it being so rundown. More like this when I visited it decades ago.
Thanks Andres! Great minds think alike on cool honeymoon spots I guess I am really loving Venice! We leave for Florence tomorrow and I wish I could stay longer. How long were you there? Also, I did cheat and use a few photos of us from a previous trip to Greece! You're too kind @RAGNAROK I think she makes me look better by association She's the only girl in her immediate family but I think I recall a few drunk cousins at the wedding... what do I say the open bar was a smashing success! Thanks Red Yeah you nailed it on the architectural ID. One of those was the Parthenon and the other was the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens. I would honestly like to see the Nashville Parthenon now that I've seen the original. Getting a better ideal of how the color might have been used would be really neat. To keep this post coin related here is one of many coins I was ogling at the Venice Archeological Museum. (More on that in a future write up.) A beautiful coin of Trajan Decius.
Congratulations Curtis! Sorry, I am late to post (I have been really busy with Spring cleanups) I ended up getting married to one of my lawn clients Gained a second house in that move..... Here is a modern version of a Regal couple. AV 4 Dukaten 1931 Belgrade Mint King Alexander I/ Queen Maria of Yugoslavia Assasinated in 1934/ Paris/ France
You will LOVE Florence. It is a rather quiet medieval/Renaissance town with tons of pretty buildings. The weather should be quite nice. Get the 72-hour pass. It will give you access to each of the museums and cathedrals in Florence (which adds up really quickly!). Their collection was . I loved every second of it.
Are you in Italy now? We may end up getting the Firenze Card but I went ahead and made reservations at all the museums separately just in case! I'm pretty stoked. The numismatic section of the Venice museum was very impressive. I could have spent a lot more time than I did there.
The Firenze card is €72, but I am sure you know that. Most of the museums cost €10-20, so it proves its worth very quickly. I was there back in early March. If you need/want any suggestions, feel free to PM me. Same. My mother had much more patience than I was expecting, but I sapped it all out of her.
Some highlights from the Venice numismatic collection: Various Roman Republicans: A mouth-watering hoard: Colosseum Sestertius: Posthumous Augustus bust with obvious spaces for a radiate crown: The coin room with every type of hammered coin produced in Venice. What the display cases looked like (the setup lent itself to good pictures!). The earliest coin produced in Venice (814-840):
