Hello folks, Yet another classic comm has crossed my path. This is #30 on my classic comm type set list. Can't say there's anything special about York in particular as this was more of a locally significant commemoration as opposed to anything on the national level. Just one of those things that happened in 1936, so York is not unique in that sense. This is also my first fatty holder ever, which is nice. I didn't buy it because of that. I genuinely like the coin's toning, but being in a fatty sure didn't hurt the decision making process.
This is the coin I use in my Type set to represent "classic" US silver commems. I like this design better than the "Maine State" Classic commem, although I might get that coin eventually. I like also that yours is in a NGC Fatty, which is my favorite slab of all time. And also you got the CAC sticker, which is also something I try and aquire on all my coins. Show your slab shots please! Here is mine: Same Grade, same CAC, bud sadly mine is not in a fatty.
I searched for more than a year to find one that I liked well enough to purchase. The untoned specimen had more appeal to me. PCGS MS64
Every once and a while, I find some the packaging for the "old commemoratives." Here's the folder for the York Half Dollar. Here is my coin.
Beautiful coins! But here is yet another design with rays. Rays… Mesmerized by the rays… Got to have rays…
