    Thanks Again, @Gam3rBlake! Promise you, I'm going to bookmark all of this, and download anything that's downloadable. ...I do have a copy of Spufford, but I've never read it through --or spent enough time with it more generally.

    @panzerman, you're Just That Good!!!
    ...What is dressage? That's a word that goes sailing over my head. (--Oh, wait; I think it just landed on me. I was thinking it was a numismatic term.)

    @Ryan McVay, look what I just did.
    For a little context, it eventually landed on me that, having collected mostly late Roman AE for years as a kid (partly because that was what was available), I no longer had a good example of Constantine. Just fixed that. CONSTANTINE I, OBV..jpg

    CONSTANTINE I, REV..jpg I haven't even checked Wildwinds, never mind ACSearch or CoinArchives. But this corresponds to my, um, 2nd, 1974 edition of Sear, 3771, except that the mint is Trier.
    I like the somewhat ironic convergence of the obverse motif, with Constantine in, Yep, that helmet, and full armor, with the reverse legend, BEATA TRANQUILITAS. ...Yeah, Whatever.
    Apart from that, I like the height of the relief; almost a return from the nadir of the later 'barracks emperors' and Diocletian's Triumvirate to the earlier phases of the 3rd century.

    Hmm I don’t know if I consider a “war horse” to be of the same caliber as the horse you mentioned sold for $120K.

    Once I saw a documentary about expensive horses for racing and shows and it’s just insane how distinguished the pedigree is of the horses. Like they’re bred from previous world class horses.

    I know that back then war horses were special and had to be trained and have the right temperament to not run from a big noisy battle. But at the same time it’s not like they were all purebred with pedigrees going back centuries. They just wouldn’t have had the luxury to only allow specially bred horses to become war horses considering most horses in general aren’t even war horses let alone world class horses.

    Maybe some of them were but the fact is there were so many “war horses” in existence that they couldn’t be the 0.01% of horses like the one that sold for $120K.

    note: I am making a lot of assumptions about the $120k horses but I’m just guessing based on my very limited experience of horses.

    Oh and amazing coin by the way! I replied to the first part of your post and forgot to mention the coin which was the entire point of it xD.

    I dream of an ancient gold coin. I have some electrum fractional staters but to have one like a gold stater or a 60 asses Roman gold coin would be a dream come true.

    My ultimate fantasy is a gold Croesid of Lydia but that won’t happen unless I either win a jackpot or make a fortune from the stock market xD.
