How could you possibly prove that nickel is out of a special mint set? Since the coin is obviously circulated it probably wouldn't matter much anyway.

I read in CT once that stolen paypal and credit carc accounts are used on ebay and coins are the favorite transfer mechanism. The buyer and seller are both in on it when it goes down. 500 is a felony in most states I beleive. 450 is one of those giveaway bids... especially if theres only 1 bid.
You misunderstand, there never were any '64 SMS sets, so there was nothing to break apart to begin with. The contention is that there were, or have been so far, approximately 25 individual 1964 cents, nickels, dimes, quarters and halves identified that match the identifying characteristics of the SMS coins issued in '65 thru '67. Now that being said, it is also worth noting that the foremost experts we have have been arguing about this for decades. About half of the time they can't even identify coins that are taken directly from the '65, '66 & '67 SMS sets as being SMS coins. So the argument is valid about them being able to identify coins dated '64 as being SMS. It all depends on who you ask - some will say they exist, others will say they don't.
Thanks for clearing that up for me Doug. I had no idea they weren't issued in a sealed pack together. I've never even heard of a 1964 SMS before I read this thread...lol...I guess I learned something new today.
