There is some hoard evidence: a hoard found in the 1800s near Franiker (Friesland) contained a relative large number of Herstal sceatta's, and only a few Merovingian sceats. The Gallic War staters (minted probably c. 200 years later) are abundant, though good condition go for a premium.
