    So you visited Jordan but not Petra?! That's uncommon. I don't understand what you mean with those "hardliners tearing down monuments" : there has never been any problem of that sort in Petra since 150 years. It is one of the safest place on earth. Even Israeli tourists visit it.

    I meant Palmyra, my bad ! I didn't visit it because it is in Syria and I couldn't get a visa (aging brain I guess)

    Ah, OK ! :). I understand what you mean: Syrians demanded that visa applications should be made in the Syrian embassy of your country of residence. That is their law. If you are American and in Jordan, it was impossible for you to get your visa from the Syrian embassy in Amman...
    I visited Palmyra several times (before 2011, of course). It is magic... I have no words to qualify the 婊子的兒子 who blew up some of the most iconic of its monuments...
