Hey, Ben Franklin ( a founding father) wanted to end slavery in this country and was one of the founders of the abolishment movement. Inventor, bifocal glasses still used today, publisher, writer, diplomat the list goes on and on and anyone from Philly will tell you that they are still building things in that city with the money he left to that city. Ben was also one of the best economic minds who realized the power of compounding interest over time. He deserves to be placed on a coin and then on a rotating basis. The Presidents, hey some were good, some were horrible and some were just there for the ride. How can all be honored.

Now as far as the non-voters in this nation. Hey if someone is to lame not to place a vote on a consistent basis, at least a write in for a protest vote, then I really do not want them to vote for they are clueless.
As for Carter, does anybody remember that before his actions against the then pro-west leaders of that nation, that Iran was actually an ally of our nation.

There is a VERY wide range of opinions being expressed here. I love the American ideals that allow this type of public discussion without fear of reprisal from the government! Wouldn't it be great to honor these ideals allegorically on our nation's coinage? It seems that depicting any individual will always generate heated debates about the worthiness of those people to be placed on coins.

But, one thing that everyone seems to agree with is the right to hold and express these opinions. That's an American ideal that should be honored on our coinage. Everybody can feel represented with that.

I think the mint should forget about designs for a while and start concentrating on the QUALITY of the coin strikes and their customer service!

My feelings are probably pretty well known by those who use this forum often.

I am in the minority, but would love to see a Presidential coin series.

    :) :)

Well Gary, I would rather see you on a coin then most of the presidents but then again as a retired teacher, you earned it more then others.

Is it me?, but the Carter coin I posted on page three looks like it is toning (and not the good toning either)! :p Maybe it is a little bit of foreshadowing of the presidential dollars that soon will come our way.

You have two sides to this issue and personal attacks aside, I love a good debate. I always believed, "Before you raise your voice, reinforce your argument." You have to admit, it makes the threads more interesting with the "point and counterpoint" statements.

Well at least I made it to the end and avoided past comments like: "hate monger, insensitive, corporate-stealing-throw-granny-out-on-the-street, enviromental polluting, and/or conservative, white-guy" .

For all supporters of presidential dollar coins, this was a fun battle.

"Throw granny out on the street". That reminded me of how Social Security was avoided in the old days. Send Granny or Grandpa off on an ice floe.
Since you reminded me of that Ed, you must be a .................:)

I am in favor of a presidential dollar series....If it signals the end of presidents on our regular circulating coinage.

I am all for presidents on coins. The Romans put their Emporers on coins, so why not our presidents? A good president helps maintain liberty and freedom for all.

yes, but the Roman Emperors were diefied. I can just imagine the crazy things our polititians would do if we told them that they are gods! Oh my! That would be scary! :)
