However, investing in large groups of other generic coins may also have potential. These are the most common dates of a series, like "type coins."”</p><p> To consider that coin collectors would consider junk silver an investment is, to say the least, dumb. With the increase in the price of silver over the last year it would seem to be a fool’s investment to buy silver when it is at a historic high, at least for the current period. This comment may have been a wise statement two years ago when silver was at about $6 an ounce, (purely based on my memory, which may be off by a few months or so). However, how often does a wise buyer enter the market at the top of the cycle. Silver as well as gold moves in cycles, and now does not seem to be the time to start buying. A few months ago a friend was selling silver like crazy when he was getting (from dealers) 10 X face.
