Writing a check or sponsoring a charity event, doesn't give you permission to steal. I wonder if this was his over all plan to begin with? To big to fail = to good to jail. The government and court system has been known to buy into thinking like this.
He had a trust fund of 7 million dollars drawn up for his family in 2012, but he couldn't pay back his creditors? Virtuous on the surface, and lecherous, as one goes deeper. The judge should have sentenced him to the max........
"Perhaps you posters should read the trial transcript (if available yet) before you libel the fellow." "Yaffe owned Porsche and Mercedes automobiles, two boats and two personal watercraft. Loper also said Yaffe had set up a $7 million trust fund for his family in November 2012, well after the bankruptcy." I'll settle for your summation of the transcript.
Someone sounds a little jealous of one person's success. He owns too much and set up a trust fund for his family...OOOOOOO. Must be guilty of something; let's take all his "stuff" and give it to each who has less - the less fortunate among us. This WAS America (good & bad) at one time - robber Baron's, rich coin dealer's, etc. Times are changing. I'm sure the evidence against him will be published by some "jealous, do-go Puritan, Snickerdo" (just came out, sounded good whatever it is Until we find out the facts (as his jury did) ,I'll reserve MY judgement. PS No politics here, just to make my point: Did you know there was an attack on an embassy in the Middle East BECAUSE OF A VIDEO? That's a FACT.
"Someone sounds a little jealous of one person's success." ?????? You've got some serious issues going on. FACT: I have never been jealous of a convicted thief FACT: He stole at least $3,049,581 FACT: after filing for chapter 13 bankruptcy (which was denied) He created a $7million trust fund with money that could have been used to back his creditors. FACT: He was found guilty and sentenced
Probably all true. Nevertheless, bringing up trust funds, cars (what do you drive), boats (have any) has nothing to do with him being guilty of whatever he did. And thanks for the informed info as you sound like you may be a creditor and know more than you have posted. Over the years, people in this business are convicted of crimes some huge (present case) and some minor (if there is such a thing). Many of them have returned to continue their passion for coins AND MONEY. I am in agreement that criminals should be caught, tried, and punished (possibly more than you as in cut-off-a-hand). However, I'm not perfect and I'll bet even you may have something to hide from your fellow numismatists and possibly competitors. I say let's not gloat over the shame and downfall of someone who once may have been a pillar of our profession and his community...that's all.
Who the devil is gloating? The guy got his due and that's it. I could care the devil what he owned or what he's worth. Bottom line? The guy did the dirty and he got caught. End of story...........
Gloating wrong choice of words. "Making fun of" much better. Green we are talking about you in the chats about rating the members
And I wasn't making fun of the bloak......he got what he deserved........actually he deserves a little more.......
How on earth do you make fun out of someone becoming a convicted felon? It is a sad situation for himself, his family and all those who trusted him.
"Probably all true. "Probably all true..." You would do well to reread the original article and my post. He was CONVICTED by a jury and SENTENCED by a Federal judge. Instead of paying his creditors he chose to use the money to create a family trust. Instead of selling his toys to pay his creditors he chose to keep them. Does the above sound like a stand up guy to you. Either both of your oars aren't the water, the elevator doesn't go to the top floor or you're making a joke of the situation.
"It is a sad situation for himself, his family and all those who trusted him." It is a sad situation. Yaffe made several thought out bad choices and now he's going to pay just a little bit for those bad decisions. Most thieves make bad decisions and care nothing about the people they hurt. Had he not stolen >$3million he would not be going to jail.
