Found this in a coin lot of 15 rolls of CULL coins. Seller said that he put a few nice ones in there, and I guess this was one. Paid $45 for the lot, and I'm not even half way through. Only problem is the black spot it the rev, and the glue or resin on the bust, obv.
A shame? I thought it was a cool find! Still worth about $15 in XF, and a definite upgrade to my wheat cent folder.
If "glue or resin" is the problem on the obverse, acetone should take care of that. As for the reverse, well, you can hope acetone will take care of that. If not, you have a DETAILS coin which would probably worth in the $5-10 range.
I agree. Pure acetone will help, hopefully for the reverse also. Nice coin otherwise for your collection.
Reminds me of the old trick of "salting the gold mine" way back when. Worthless mine with a sprinkle of gold to make the buyer think they are getting something good. Still, nice to find something of value.
This was still a much much better deal than buying regular wheat cent rolls. I have gotten my fair share of those and never found anything older than 1917.
