Negros Occidental Currency Committee - Philippine National Bank
This currency committee was created by Prsident Quezon and composed of Jose V. Buenaventura, Manager of the Bacolod Branch of the Philippine National Bank, as chairman, with acting Provincial Auditor Ceferino Ramos and Provincial Fiscal Francisco Arellano as members.
Two issues of Emergency currency printed by this committee were turned over to the Philippine National Bank for Distribution.
1941 FIRST ISSUE: The telegram creating this committee authorized 100,000 Pesos to be printed in denominations of 1,5 and 10 Pesos. In a telegram sent the next day, President Quezon increased the authorization to 500,000 Pesos. Of the authroized amount, 475,000 pesos were issued. For some reason, 25,000 pesos in 5 peso notes (serial 35,0001- 40,000) were never printed.
1941 SECOND ISSUE: acting on petition of the committee, President Quezon authorized and additional 1,000,000 pesos. The next day he visited Bacolod, met with the committee and increased the amount to 7,000,000 pesos. Two days later, he authorized a total of 14,500,000 pesos in emergence currency to be printed for Negros Occidental. As this included 6,448,771 pesos allocated to the Negros Occidental Provincial Currency Comittee, the final authorization amounted to 8,051,229 pesos.
Of the authroized amount, 1,425,000 had beenprinted. There were 19,456.30 pesos in uninssued currency remaining in the valut when bacolod was occupied by the Japanese forces.

Negros Occidental ProvincialCurrency Committee
This committee was created by president Quezon and was Composed of Provincial Treasurer Nicolas Encrnacion as chairman, with acting Provincial Auditor Ceferino Ramos and Provincial Fiscal Francisco Arellano as members.
No Specific amount was stated, the authorization being for sufficient currency to pay sallaries of employees and governement laborers. In the latter part of Febuary, 1942 when President Quezon Visited Bacolod, the total amount to be issued was set at 6,448,771 pesos.
The currency printed by this committee was turned over to the Provincial Treaserurer fior distribution. Printing was by Nalco Press on white paper. A total of 4,528,350 pesos was delivered prior to the arrival of the Japanese occupation forces. All but 150,000 Pesos had been placed in circulation. The unissued notes remained in the Philippine National Bank vault until liberation when they were destroyed when the bank building was burned down in march 1945.
Just prior to the Japanese arrival, three sacks of currency were taken from Nalco Press by Treasurer Ancamacion when he evacuated to the mountains. The currency amounted to 86,250 pesos in 5 pesos notes serialy numbered 341,851 to 359,100. In July 1942 Encamacion surrendered to the Japanese, turning over to them 26,250 Pesos of the 5 peso notes. These were incinerated on Japanese orders. What happened to the other 60,000 pesos was never explanined.

1943 Second Treasury Emergency Currency Certificate Issue (Printed in Liangan, Lanao, Spetembner 6 to November 1, 1943)
P-S491-P-S495 were printed on manilla paper
P-S496-P-S499 were printed on white bond paper (delivered by submarine), some of which has commercial watermarks. Linen bond or PREMIERE bond. Border cuts for P-S467 had somehow beenmisplaced, so new cuts were made which slightly differ from the previous ones. To avoid duplicatationof serial numbers, the series letters were doubled. Countersigning was dispensed with.
1943 Third Treasury Emergency Currency Certificate Issue (Printed in Esperanza, Augsan, December 13th 1943 to January 23rd 1944)
P-S502-P-S508 were printed from Metal plates brought in by USS NARWHAL, P-S501 and P-S509 from previous types and wood border cuts. All notes printed on white paper delivered with the plates. paper range from ordinary book to bond paper. Some of the bond paper has commercial PREMIER BOND watermark. Serial numberscontinued from where the second printing left off.
1943 Fourth Treasury Emergency Currency Certificate Issue (Printed in Lorento, Agusan, march 18th to July 5th, 1944 and November 4th to 15th, 1944)
P-S511-P-S518 Printed from the same paper stock as the third printing, so some may also be found with commercial watermakr PREMIER BOND. As this printing showed the change in date from 1943 to 1944, serial numbers serial numbers started over again and with single series letters.
