Does anyone know some more information about the WW2 War Finance Medals? I came across one of these and bought one for the novelties sake. Is is silver? If so, what's the composition?

Mine seems to be engraved (possibly to reward someone for selling $XXX of war bonds). How many of these were made?

It measures 35mm and weighs 0.75 ounces, so if it's coin silver (90%) that works out to 0.675 oz asw. If it's sterling (92.5%) that works out to 0.69375 oz ASW.

These medals were struck in .925 silver and awarded to individuals who worked in the process of selling war bonds. It's melt value is close to $30.

Good to know. Do you know how much war bonds someone had to sell to get one? Or how many were minted?

Were any of these minted in brass, bronze, or gold?

These were only made in silver. 50,000 of them were made by the US mint. They were distributed to each state War Finance Committee. The local commitees established the criteria for distribution. There was no set amount for bonds sold. These could be presented to anyone involved in the War Finance program including secretaries and other administrative pesonnel who did not directly sell bonds. The engraving was done on the local level.
