I think the extra detailing in the tail feather is easier to spot, and I think we're just talking 2000-P Sacs.

Yes, the "spines" where the tail feathers attach is raised on the Cheerios dollar where those "spines" are incused on the regular one.

Also, each tail feather has more detail in the Cheerios dollar.

Reading up more on this....can you imagine if you found the 1 in 4400 cheerios prize. It was a certificate redeemable for 100 Sacs from General mills. If you had redeemed it, based on the current bid value, you'd be looking at a $395000 prize!!!!

Think of the frenzy if all this had been discovered some time back in 1999 when only 10% of the Cheerios with Sacs had been sold. There'd be caravans of cars careening down the street, heading for the cereal aisle. :)

How many boxes of cheerios on the shelves at one time, 50 ?

    50 X 4000 = $200,000.

The 100 Sac's prize would have been paid off later in 2000 so the coins would not have been the 1999 reverse. The reason the Cheerios Sac's are different is because they had to be minted early enough in '99 to be packaged and inserted in time for a Jan. 2000 release. From what I have read there are 5500 Cheerios Sac's, all have the 1999 reverse. They were produced using the same dies that were used to mint the Gold Sac's that were sent up on the shuttle. I read somewhere that those coins are in the Smithsoniaon collection.

Ive also heard that for some reason the Cheerios cents are fetching a good price also.

    walliper is right,

Like CW said, I think the Cheerios coins may count as a "Pattern" coin.

    what is a "pattern" coin

A pattern is generally described as a test design, or a proposed design. The US Mint has confused its proof and business strike dies over the last several years.. The W mint business strike gold eagles, and the wide and narrow AM lincoln cents are an example of this same phenomena as the proof dies used for a coin like this.

well, it didn't sell, I guess the market won't bear the price that Pat Briddick was hoping for. I honestly think that the number of these that are in circulation will forever keep the price lower than it otherwise would be.

If I were you I would take the coin to a dealer near you and have him send it to PCGS or NGC for grading...after that I would send it to Heritage Auction Co. (I think the www is...www.heritagecoins.com) or Bower and Merena Auction Co....

They would get a cut like all auction Co's. do but if you want to sell it...that would be my suggestion.

    luckybox,
Give us more details, please. Was the buyer one of your bidders? Why $2500 and not $3950? Was one of your bidders not serious and just feeling out your reserve? This being such a highly visible auction, we'd like to know more. :D
