found this penny in the new ones i got today and the penny looks in great shape but has a them lair of steel over it.. I have no Ideal!
well if it was paint why would a magnet pick it up and it be pressed into the mold so well? Just asking
could plating be thick.. i have a better one this is a 1953 penny with the wheat stock messed up on both sides.
Banks-Yours could have some paint or plating also, but those big lumps you're seeing in the wheat ears are die chips. They were very common in the wheat grains on older dies.
thanks i am just learning , i have 10,000+wheats here and about 20k 1959 to date.. looking for something good//
Keep looking, you'll find something. You'll also notice more of these die chips on the wheats. Another very common area for chips to develop on the reverse of Wheat Cents was on the last T on CENT for some reason.
