[QUOTE="Vess1, post: 646089, member: 13650"]I voted for both. Although it seems like we already have a classified section. I've read some great ideas here. GD makes a good point that maybe it may be hard to get people to list auctions, but who knows. The open forum is very close to an auction style anyway when you can make an offer. It's just not a formal auction layout.

The first thing that came to my mind is how well policed a cointalk auction site could be if people were willing to do the work. When you have a site full of experts in their fields, dedicated to coins, and the auctions will be coins and no other non-sense, just think how well policed this could be compared to ebay. You could actually have a real zero tolerance policy for knowingly selling counterfeits and get bad sellers banned. Let them go back to ebay.

The main problem I see for it working is simply the number of people. Where you may get more page views of your auction than total membership that exists here. You have to figure only a fraction of the regular membership may or may not go to the auction forum. A fraction of them may look at a particular auction. And then a fraction of them may actually buy. The pool of actual buyers here is probably much smaller to begin with than most would think right now.

So it may not work unless people really pushed to get the word out to a lot of non-members so they would check ebay and here, and then sellers would have to be aggressively policed.

Maybe a neat idea but the end may not justify the means.
