Coin Talk is a great place to come and listen in or participate in discussion and debate over just about anything numismatic. We have an open forum where individuals may post something numismatic related to buy, sell, or trade. This makes Coin Talk much like the old B&M shops you used to be able to go into and sit and chat coins, discuss off the wall things, and periodically place something on or buy something off the bid board. These B&M places existed decades ago, and as a YN back then, it was quite an encouraging experience. I do not personally believe Coin Talk needs to in any way upgrade or add to any BST experience that we already have here. If you want off eBay, simply peruse the open forum we already have, and interact with the members. Or use one of the many smaller sites popping up in response to eBay's inadequacies. I have lurked Coin Talk long before I even joined as a member, and Coin Talk has always been about community. Introducing something more commercial like "eBay style" auctioning systems, "Craigslist style" classifieds, and bells and whistles, simply moves away from the "community" feel, in my opinion. Yes, there are good aspects, as it is something that people desire, but does it really belong here at Coin Talk? Is Coin Talk the place to come and BST in easy auction format, sending your monthly or periodic payments to Peter to keep it all running like clockwork? Is it the place you can go to BST knowing that there is an army of numismatic professionals and numismatic cops to keep everything in line and on the up and up, so that we may all BST without fear or need to do our own homework and educate ourselves? Or is it a place of community with a common interest where we can come together and discuss what we enjoy...coins? Something to think about. Changes change things.
