well put chip. I imagine some close friendships have been brought forth through CT, and people share intimate things with some friends. It was my suggestion, because there were some that refuse to bid against bidder (a) because they are familiar, I have suggested that the seller/ bidder information be anonymous in the auction and only known by CT. So, one cannot know from one auction to another, who anyone is,those numbers will change from auction to auction. So no one really knows who they are bidding against, until the auction is completed, if they choose to identify themselves by announcing what they won. It's up to an individuals discretion to do so. This is the Game we play, and I'm certain we can be good winners and loser's .

I voted on this subject and commented favorably early on. Since then I have followed each post, and am reconsidering my original position.

As the risk of being added to the "undignified opinion" list, I share the concerns that this has the potential to fundamentally change CoinTalk.

If the objective is to move toward a full commercial buy/sell site one must admit that the change potential is great. Along with a commercial operation it would be reasonable to expect strong personalities and opinions to emerge. We can expect to attract a number of new members drawn by the marketplace opportunity alone. This is where I see the biggest threat to CoinTalk.

I see two main options for a buy/sell function. One, incorporate into the existing CoinTalk framework, setting those rules/policies deemed necessary to minimize disruption to the current flavor of the site. And, two, to add the commercial functions as a parallel to the CoinTalk function. Pro's and Con's abound, in the details, for both thoughts.

Overall, as I see the risk to the existing CoinTalk function I believe a slow introduction of the commercial aspect would be approporiate.

First, your not in that category. I must have missed realizing the underlying objective of transitioning CT forums into a major "open" commercial buy/sell site as a possible short term goal. I didn't hear that.

If that truly is the objective, your stated concerns to a degree are mine as well. I still believe we can put our best foot forward long term to that end, beginning with (closed-CT members only) as you suggest:

"I believe a slow introduction of the commercial aspect would be appropriate".

Thank you for your opinion, constructive suggestions and insight.

    Tom.

the fact of the matter is. People want to know who they are buying from. I feel much more comfortablebuying from someone with a high feedback or someone I have exchanged emails with.
Some of us are close. We know what people like, and actually have a list of wanted coins for those people. I have refrained from bidding on a coin because a fellow member was bidding on it. That's how we like it. We don't want to bid against each other. So we like to know who is bidding or having the auction.
Most people here receive several PMs a day regarding business. A list of people to avoid doing business with is not uncommon. To cover the names of the seller would be forcing people to buy from people they don't want to do business with.
Maybe the auction/open forum could only be viewed and used on an invite system?
An invitation by a mod/ or Peter is required before you have access to the subforum. That would keep freeloaders out and the only people in the auction house would be people the admins and mods feel comfortable having there.
