Ok, thats all 13 of them. Any help would be awesome. The two ungraded ones are the ones I'm having trouble with. I am considering sending them in to have them graded as well just couldn't find any info out on them yet.

Pick up a copy of the "Red Book" to find out the mintages, some history, a ball park value. A copy of a grading guide to learn how to grade the coins that are not in slabs. And finally look on Ebay final sales prices for closer idea of what your coins go for.

15th-16th century European gold coins in the redbook?

I think you'll need to talk to someone who specializes in this type of material.

Read the slab - that's a good start. Then go to PCGS, look up the coin numbers and read away.

And also, why didn't you just have them all slabbed?

wow your grandfather has an amazing collection. unfortunately my Krause catalogs only go back to 17th century 1600-1700's. check Ebay for similar coins on auction and completed auctions.

Your grandpa had good taste. I would suggest creating a login for www.acsearch.info and spend a few hours researching similar auction results. Coinarchives.com might be an option also. The prices will be more relevant then a Krause guide. With the quality of some of the coins you have, it would be worth the time investment comparing auction results on comparable pieces.

Funny you mention acsearch.info, I did a lot of looking around on their site and finally shot them an email and a guy named Simon emailed me back and directed me to this forum and said I could get a lot of info by putting pictures of them on here and seeing what people know.

PCGS gave absolutely no info on these coins in there site, at least none that I found relevant.
I have spent hours looking online, and in books trying to find info on these coins and have had some luck, not finding all the same coins but close. Some coins I haven't found much on as far as value because nothing I find is the exact same coin. SO, as I said above, www.acsearch.info referred me to this forum in hopes of finding out more about my coins, and here I am.

I would suggest posting what you do know and let people help fill in the gaps and correct the information. At the least, provide your guess on date, country, km/classification, and your guess of value. Let others see what you have done rather that post just an image. Just my 2 cents.

And that's kind of the problem. You see I did collect medieval gold, just not medieval gold from every single country. You say you have spent hours looking for info, well that's exactly what anybody else would have to do - unless they happened to specialize in the coins of those individual countries. Just quickly going by memory you have coins from Great Britain, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Hungary, and I think Spain. And most of them are older than the coins that can be found in most books except for Friedberg. And that's the only book that I am aware of that will have those coin in it. But even Friedberg won't help you much, all it will help you do is maybe identify the coins. And in most cases that's already been done for you by PCGS.

So, using acsearch is about your best bet to find approximate values for those coins. You could also try - http://www.coinarchives.com/w - and - http://coins.ha.com

If I were looking all those coins up, that's exactly what I would do. And that's about all I could do.

This will be a good place to find information, but as you have spent a lot of time searching yourself, don't be in too much of a hurry in this place. You have to realize that the collectors here don't spend the entire working day online. Be patient and polite and you can get a lot of information. BTW welcome to CoinTalk!

Ummmm The Red book is for US coins not world coins.

I mistakenly assumed they were US gold coins w/o looking closer. Just jumped the gun.
