I think the worst coin design ever made would be the Shield Nickel and SBA Dollar. What is your opinion?
Personally I like Shield Nickels. What does "worst" mean? Ugly? Unpopular? Probably the biggest failure of any US coin is the SBA Dollar. Ugly and unpopular.
Yes - shield nickels rock. I am not sure what my least favorite design is - new prez dollars, ikes..can really decide.
IMHO the franklin half is downright ugly. But I think the worst are between the prez and sacagewea dollars.
This is likely to be an unpopular opinion, but I dislike Lincoln cents, Jefferson nickels, Roosevelt dimes, Washington quaters - anything with a real person on it. Our coinage was far more beautiful when allegorical figures of Liberty graced it. I hope some day those days return.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not Jefferson nickels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay....Breathe....... No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, I love Jeffersons, but I totally see your point, and I guess I have to agree with you. Early American coinage is extremely beautiful, and modern coinage is blah. I have no comeback to that argument. Um... Early pieces are too expensive! I'm going to go look at my toned MS-67 full-step Jeffersons now.
That at least I can't argue with. I recently purchased something that is not an early copper just for a change. I can't wait for it to show up. It has real people on it, but it is not a coin, so I'm not being a hypocrite. Really.
I like the prez $!!! I love the state quarters as a seriese, but I think it's disgusting what they did to washington... Giving him spagheti hair ;(
