I just got a box of Wheaties. When thinking about the best way to sort them, I decided to put them on a plate in order to pick out the steel cents first (I live in a high humidity area so they're going into a tube with desiccant ASAP). As soon as I saw the plate filled with coins, my first thought was ... " Wow, this looks like the collection plate for a church with a really cheap congregation. " Although there's probably a Jack Benny joke somewhere in here, too!
At our church we'll take any and all coins. We roll them up and deposit them. It adds up and still beneficial for the needs of the church BTW.. take a strong magnet and go over the Cents.. the steel Cents will quickly stick to it
