Oh my! That is positively amazing. One of the most beautiful Doppeltalers I have ever seen. Just showed it to my wife and told her that can be my retirement gift ;) edit: not retiring for a long time.

This is the Crown from the matt proof set 1902 that I picked up last week. The rest are in the Newest acquisitions thread.

Rather new but very attractive and with a link back to 1774 when, I discovered, Juan Perez led an expedition which made the first documented sighting of the Queen Charlotte Islands off British Columbia. I had never heard of him or his expedition. The Spaniards were an adventurous lot !

What does "Grof Haar" mean? Like "Big Hair" ?

Coarse hair seems an accurate description but not very respectful to a monarch

For comparison, here is a 1938 2 1/2 gulden with the shallow or fine hair lines. I am sure no disrespect was meant toward the queen, it is just how language works sometimes. 1938 NL 2 1-2 g obv.JPG 1938 NL 2 1-2 g rev.JPG

This one brought to me in the market today - Spanish Netherlands (Brabant) Ducaton, 166x (last digit obliterated). Interesting coin!

Anyone know where to find it in the Krause book? Under Spanish Netherlands in my copy (1996) they list only gold coins from Brabant, but on Numista they give a reference #72.1... ?
