Basel thaler ND(1670)

 

1771 Bavaria thaler, a very common and cheap thaler in low grades!Personally,i find this particular type very beautiful!

I must agree, it is a particularly beautiful design, not cluttered, quite artistic.

I apologise for not replying earlier. I just came back from holiday.

I think the silver was the same purity (0.924 ?) but the weight was less. An Act of Parliament of June 14 1686 increased the ratio of Scottish to English coinage from 12:1 to 13 2/45:1 (which remained until the Act of Union in 1707). My coin has a weight of 27.56 g and the Coincraft catalogue gives a range of 27.3-27.7 g. The English William & Mary crowns are 29.6-30 g.

Three Brothers Thaler

 

Very nice. I'm envious, a coin that is very much on my bucket list.

 

This one is 34mm and has close to 12g of silver. I may have posted it somewhere on CT before, but I like the look. Picked it up for about $2 US over melt.
