The price alone screams fake . . . and so do the fonts on both sides when I compared it to a real one. Probably other discrepancies as well, but I didn't bother looking for them.
It does indeed, though I'm not sure I see the font discrepancy. The coin is supposedly actually coming from Cyprus, not China or Russia or something. We'll see. I'll test it out, and if it's fake, return it.
My main interest is Italian and Sicilian crowns and half-crowns 1600's to 1870's. However, I've started collecting Spain and it's colonies' crowns.
some of the posters here have some great crown collections, jealous and makes me want to obtain more!
I don't really specialize in crowns, but I pick them up whenever possible that have nice designs or types I don't have yet, or it's a good buy. Because it's always nice to have a pile of big silver coins lying around. here's some of mine:
LOL, I see you have an illegal on Ebay, Cuban Peso crown. BTW, is Cuba the only country who's coins are banned on Ebay ?
I actually try to buy as much pre-Revolution Cuban coins as I can, especially the silver coins. I just have a feeling that relations will normalize very soon and the country is going to go full capitalist again and demand for these coins in-country will surge. If not, they're still cool to have.
I have a 1915 Cuban peso crown, the one crown I want to get my hands on is a Puerto Rican crown, but for some reason they go for big money.
Here are a few more I don't think have been posted. Please forgive my washed out, over-exposed photos...
That Latvian coin is nice. I bid on one recently but didn't get it. It's interesting how so many Latin American coins specify weight and fineness on the coin. I guess it's because of their long history of inflations and debasements.
Hurrah! An acetone soak and the judicious application of a small, moistened stick removed that speck of dirt amid the date on the reverse. New photo.
Got these two recently. According to Numista, these big, bad boys actually circulated. The Bahama $5 is 44m, and the France 50F is 41mm. I got the Bahamas coin for $18.50, less than melt, and the French piece for $13.65, more or less right at melt. I feel like a real cherrypicker now! While the white balance is off, the obverse on the French coin does have red toning. The reverse is also cleaned, unfortunately, but it's not evident in hand.
I probably have close to 100 different crown size or smaller silver coins from around the world. One day I will categorize them and post some photos. No real theme, I just pick up coins that I like as I go along. Mostly uncirculated or proof, but a lot of circulated coins as well.
