Wondering if someone here knows what countries gold coins generally have the lowest premiums.

    Krugerrand’s , Maples and philharmonic s
if your talking bullion coins, I would say
for the most part and generally speaking.

Are there any legal tinder world gold coins that sell for melt or slightly higher?

I would say @mpcusa list is still applicable. What happens is when PM is "boring", premiums come down and I have had the chance to buy all three at melt. I never did because I simply do not like those coins very much, but I could have bought them at that, (along with restrike Austrian, Mexican, and a couple of others). However, this only happens in a "boring" market. Today it would not be true, because I see premiums as very high due to economic stress.

What I love has been buying old US gold, or more unusual world gold coins, near melt. I get collecting enjoyment in the meantime, and also get gold exposure. For not much of a premium, (usually), you can get an AU Napolean Bonaparte gold coin. To me, that is a lot cooler than a Maple or something else struck last year.

Sure, for a gold investment I could be wasting money on any premium over the cheapest price I could buy gold, but I don't care. I view that as money well spent for my pleasure in the meantime. I do the same with platinum, mainly buying proof American Eagles. Again, don't care, I like the coins much more this way.

To each his own I say, however the Krugerrand’s are basically there to
serve as life events, birthdays, graduations, and things like that, I
have plenty of AGE,S and buffalos
and a bunch of graded Saints and
    liberties, but recently decided to
get everyone since they were minted
in 1967 about 53 coins in all, many
are really scarce, so very hard to
    find.

Nothing wrong with that. I would never question anyone's collecting interest, as my own are esoteric and weird. Didn't mean to say anything bad about anyone wanting to buy or collect those items, they simply have never interested me, (for same reason why other things do interest me, I have no idea why).

    No worries :)

I think part of the reason is the challenge
to collect all 53, but that’s not including
proofs and special editions, so you can
double that, there’s like 10 special edition coins as well and the populations on those are below ridiculous.

You can see a list of 7 coins weekly in BARRON'S which comes out on Saturdays.

Krugerrands and Austria Crowns have been the cheapest on a %-basis.

It’s a double edge sword when it comes
to buying bullion style coins, one of
the least expensive w/ premium is the
Kriugerrand and the other side you
have AGE,S and buffalos will cost you
more to buy buy you can sell those usually for more so in the end your going
to pay one way or another.

Yes, you can get cheaper gold coins but it all comes out in the wash, meaning when it's time to sell, you'll most likely have to sell for less unless you're good at finding dummies! j/k :D

I think the narrower bid-ask spread on the coins I cited means you'll be buying/selling at close to spot bullion each time.

With the higher-premium coins....you'll buy at the higher ask price, but SELL at the lower bid price, most likely.

According to my LCS which I have had dealings with for over 15 years, and like many have already mentioned it really doesn't matter what you buy for example
US GOLD will usually cost you more then for instance a Krugerrand you will get
compensated more for like a buffalo but again you paid more to, or for instance
a Mexican Libertad which has a very high demand and you will most likely pay
a huge premium as well, which I think you could easily get back do to low
production numbers through out the series.
