Those that follow this thread know I love my mint and proof sets. Every now and then I find something special or unique. This is one of those. Australia pumps out a lot of mint and proof sets and the market is getting a little crazy on some issues. One needs to research to find the ones which are more desirable than others. And why. This 1991 Mint commemorates the 25th anniversary of the decimal system in Australian coinage. Here are a few reasons why this one stands out. Mintage of 25,000 is 2nd lowest of Australian mint sets. 1999 at 500 is lowest of published mintage figures. There may be some lower but I can't find published figures. This 50c commemorative was only minted in 1991 The 1,2,and 20 cent piece all have a mintage of 148,000 each That makes the 1 cent the key with the lowest mintage The mintage for the 2 cent is 2nd lowest The mintage for the 20 cent is 4th The 1 and 2 cent are only available in the set. If the Mintage on the set is 25,000 and the mintage on the coins are 148,000. What happened to the other 123,000? Krause list the value of this set at $245! Take that for what it's worth. Someone take a guess at what I paid. This set will have a place in my "special set" collection.
