When I buy a European coin here, the question of whether it is sought after elsewhere in the world is not really an issue for me. Once in a while it may be interesting to buy a piece outside Europe and have it shipped (or bring it) here, but in most cases it is not worth the effort. (Depends on what one collects, of course.) I may well buy a coin in a lower grade if it really fills a gap, but I think that in many other cases I would just be angry at myself later, when faced with the question of whether I should buy the same coin in a better grade.

Back to the topic, ahem, here is a newly issued piece that I just got myself. (Image from the mint, but it arrived today.) It is a Finnish collector coin from a series dedicated to ethics. The first issue in that series (2009) was about Peace and Security, others were about Multiculturalism, Protecting the Baltic Sea ... This year's issue is about Literacy. You see the Latin alphabet, Braille characters, musical notes, binary code, but also (on the other side) patterns from cave paintings. Usually I do not buy those surcharged collector coins, but I find the theme quite interesting and like the design.

Christian
