I killed it while surfing in the bay last night. Won five autions! Still waiting for the seller to respond on the 5th one. I've been asking permission to use their photos after an aution is won. *Hint: It is a beautifully toned princess in original Perth Mint packaging!
Great! :thumb: And that Mercator coin I have too. Kind of odd jubilee - the piece commemorates the 375th anniversary of his death. This year they could have issued a coin for the 400th birthday but decided to not do that. Well, Belgium issued one instead (he was born in Rupelmonde, today Belgium, and died in Duisburg, today Germany). But the Belgian "coin" I will not buy - it's a gold piece which costs about €800 ... I know on eBay that looks high priced. I been @ few auction were the box this set came in sold for almost $100.00 the low mintage + its still being as sold is why its @ $200.00.that being said If its still around after Xmas I may buy it:thumb:
Thanks for the info. This coin is not in the field that I usually collect. Beautiful design. I think a lot of good deals are to be had on eBay. Just have to stay away from auctions with reserves, look for auctions ending during a weekday (this Saturday was an exception, I think most coin collectors are in Christmas shopping mode), and look for listings that avoid key words (Morgan, silver, ect…).
Well, he wasn't a very attractive man, and he was 74-75 years old at the time this coin was minted. He had some "bags under the eyes" I guess you'd say. LOL
Reminds me of that Igudesman & Joo musical sketch: "Rachmaninov - big hands. Me - small hands. (Pause). But - only hands small!" But that eye on the George II shilling still looks strange. Then again, when a living king was/is depicted on a coin, wouldn't he have approved the portrait? Christian
ff-topic: :thumb:low mintage set are ones I try to buy clad silver gold+copper too!!! my uncle Teo kinda drilled that low mintage = high $ returns when sold.old habits are had to break
I suppose they had money to make up for the inadequacies noted in other areas. Royal blood? In modern times at least, the woman did add some looks to the gene pool.
Talking about a wife and beautiful women. Modern Argentina circulated commemoratives depicting great natural landmarks of the country. We did some travelling in Latin America and here are the family at the Perito Moreno glacier in Patagonia Argentina. It is 5 km wide and average height of 74 m and still growing despite global warming.
Please check out my new error and other album. Have some nice examples. http://www.cointalk.com/members/derick/albums/error-coins/
