Nice! I see a lot of comments and good posts by you. why do i feel like you have a HUGE coin collection. lol
Upgraded my 1943 5 sucres today. The seller posted the coin as 1944 and I recieved a 1943? Will not complain.
:smileHere one more of the Middle east I need 1 one more to complete the set the Opening of the Nile:thumb:
Antonio José de Sucre was a Venezuelan independence leader and one of Simón Bolívar's generals. From this picture, the nose seems sligtly exaggerated on the coin. What do you think?
The nose is slightly exaggerated on the coin, but that is what makes it very cool, that nose and those sideburns.
It does, the lips are also little on the thin side. Look at this nice one. One of my metallurgist bought it last week. Thought I would like it, but had to pay him back. I did like it.
I agree. But it seems that Sucre had quite a characteristic nose. See this portrait for example: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/exhibits/portraits/index.php?img=366 Christian
Wish I could remember where, but I recently saw the entire set in proof (with original case) offered for $160 somewhere online. Set, as in 4 silver coins. The box was trapezoid shaped with red felt. Very cool but a wee bit too modern for my tastes.
I was mistaken, was listed for $200 on eBay. Nifty set of coins. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-Egypt-...8029016?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item27cd4bea58
My guess would be fine, perhaps very fine at a stretch, but for 499 years old I think it's in great shape!
Here is a coin from Ecquador with Sucre image on it. Pretty close to when he was alive "identical to the painting", so this is probaly a true image.
