Here in Canada/ they charge 13% HST on declared value. If coins are shipped discreet then ZERO duty The latter works well! 25% is even more of a rip off! Seems everyone wants to gouge us/ 20% auction fees/ VAT Then costs of having weak Dollar 1.35+US$ 1.45=Sfrc 1.51=EURO 1.78=UK Pounds Enough to make you wanna cry
Yes, discreet shipping is best. I really hate auction fees, you pay the auction house 20% of the coin price for literally nothing! And it is even worse for people such as yourself, who collect a lot and have for a long time, you would probably have somewhere between 100 and 300 more gold coins in your collection right now if auction fees/buyer's premiums didn't exist!
Anyway, today I found and put in a bid for a really interesting gold coin, hopefully I will be able to post it in this thread in about 6 hours!
In the U.S. different states determine if coins are taxed or not. Fortunately I live in a state that does not tax them. I buy cheaper stuff than you two but it's still nice not paying it.
I won this Empire of the Romans Gold Solidus of Leo III and Constantine V at the Leu Numismatic auction today:
excellent! I have that coin too/ from Roma. I love Byzantine gold/ have 60+ so far. I was going to bid on a couple of Roman silver ants/ but spent it on Assam mohur/ much harder to get.
I am bidding on 5 other gold coins at the Leu Numismatic auction: Franc a pied of Charles V the Wise from 1365 Aghlabid dinar of Ahmad ibn Muhammad from 858 or 859 Fatimid dinar of al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah from 974 or 975 (minted in Egypt) Fatimid Emirate of Sicily 1/4 dinar of al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah Tulunid dinar of Ahmad ibn Tulun from 879 or 880 At the Jean Elsen & ses Fils auction I am bidding on 5 gold coins as well: Visigothic tremissis of Sisebut Almoravid dinar of Ali ibn Yusuf Hafsid 1/2 dinar of Muhammad I al-Mustansir Ottoman zeri mahbub of Abdul Hamid I German Empire 20 mark (Hamburg) from 1913 At the Aureo & Calico auction I have put in bids (which still need to be approved) for 3 gold coins: Caliphate of Cordoba dinar of Abd al-Rahman III Castilian maravedi of Alfonso VIII Fatimid Emirate of Sicily Gold 1/4 dinar of al-Mu’izz li-Din Allah Also, I am waiting for KM Numismatics to send me pictures of some of the Indian gold coins I have expressed an interest in buying directly.
I have decided to add one 21st century gold coin to my collection, and that coin is the Iranian Gold 1/2 Azadi from 2002:
For the most part yes, the biggest difference is probably that you adore German gold coins, while I am not really a fan.
I love all the coinage of the Holy Roman Empire/ most German coins were struck under the HRE. But Sachsen coinage is really nice. You cannot tell me you would not want this Regensburg AV 30 Dukaten? I would be in Heaven owning it.
