One hint/ Baldwins grade of EF = TPG MS-61/62 their GEF = MS-63/64/65 their "as struck" = MS-66/67/68
I find most European/ UK graders are way more strict then US/TPG. This way you get better deals. I won a Fast Stempelglanz (about unc) France/ Napoleon 20 Francs 1812-A from Künker for 900 euros/ when it arrived I saw it was in NGC holder MS-66! A US auction sold a MS-66 ex. . same coin I won....for $4500US.
I have found and bought another Abbasid Gold Dinar of al-Ma'mun from a seller in the Netherlands (interestingly, it is the same one I bought my Umayyad Gold Dinar of al-Walid I from some years back):
Agreed. I have purchased many coins on MA-shops that were graded VF and when submitted came back XF to MS. Some sellers will have 3 or 4 of the same coin, all described as VF and one or two are obviously in better grades. You have to wade through a lot of listings, but I've found countless good deals there.
Here's one of the best designs for a regular, non-silver circulating coin in my opinion. 1973 Greece 20 drachmai.
The fact that they sold me something that was already sold to somebody else isn't the only problem, it also took them about 5 and a half hours to inform me about it!
Yes, and their unprofessionalism has unfortunately also dampened my enthusiasm for their coin auctions next month.
I have to admit/ I have won 40 coins previous auctions. Perfect service/ grading/ shipping. They send coins discreet/ no customs crap.
My latest pick up just arrived: England, Harold II (he who lost at the Battle of Hastings) penny, minted in London by Godric. Ex Braintree Hoard. (See https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-68340048)
Nice/ you are really going to town adding nice AV coins/ congrats. I have that one/ from Baldwins 2014 paid 315 UK Pds for MS ex.
Thank you, I paid around 600 USD for it and around 35 USD for FedEx International Priority shipping, which means it will be shipped from the Czech Republic tomorrow and delivered to me sometime on Tuesday.
Not if I order them from another member state of the European single market (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_single_market), while if I order them from somewhere else, I might have to pay VAT at the rate of 25%, but it isn't so simple, because some gold coins in Croatia are legally excluded from being subject to VAT, so for example if you sold me an Austro-Hungarian 100 Crown Gold Coin, I wouldn't have to pay any VAT on it.
