    Really? But there isn't a mintmark below the date, and Numista doesn't include the M for 1926 in their list of dates.

    Mintmarks weren't used on Australian coins from 1922 to 1939 regardkess of where they were struck.

    I love the special history behind this coin - treasure ships, daring seamanship, desperate battles, set in the far-flung New World coasts of South America - what could be more captivating?

    It isn't often one can tie a coin to a single historical event so directly!

    Here is a painting of this very battle, done in oil by Samuel Scott in the mid-1700's, shortly after the event itself:
