Numista doesn't say why, and google translate just says 'escudo' is the same in Spanish and English. Languages do morph over the centuries. 2000 years ago Latin was spoken in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Romania.
It may relate to linguistics. I know when I was with the Gurkhas they found an initial "S" in a word uncomfortable and generally pronounced it "ess". So "Sample" became "essample".
I haven't received any new coins for many weeks. Probably has to do with the covid surge. There are still 20 or 30 stuck in the pipeline somewhere, most from India, some from US.
Copper lover, can you supply better pix? Those are basically useless, can not see any details at all.
1801 Teutonic Order - 10 Kreuzer - Struck to commemorate the death of Archduke Maximilian Francis of Austria, the Elector of Cologne and the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order.
Yes, very cool coin or medal. I think I have something from that Teutonic Order here somewhere...can't find it at the moment.
Posted this yesterday, different sub-forum. Got it in Gibralter yesterday. Replaces one I had that was blast white with a couple of scratches. Love the toning on this 1000 Yen Olympics commemorative. Reverse cropping was a bit off
Despite the relatively few bulk foreign boxes at the most recent coin show I attended, I did find this for 20 cents.
