Handsome 1st World War German 5 Mark

I picked this up in a job lot recently - very handsome although i fear the previous owne had used a buffing machine to prepare the obverse for sale!

Still I like it in my small collection of Foreign Crowns

You had to buy a Barhein coin from Portugal? Wow. You need to open a coin shop.

I will not make much money because the market is too small and I do not like to take advantage of il informed people, I saw the same coin locally for around 150 US$ ..

maybe I will do it when I retire in 25 to 30 years as a way to pass time.

Three new coins. The British Virgin Islands one is from eBay. The two Hungarian restrike pieces are from the Heritage world coin auction about 10 days ago (on a Thursday). My favorite of the triplet is the 1929 Hungarian restrike featuring Saint Ladislaus.

    1914-C Sovereign MS62 PCGS

Sandwiched between the rare 1913-C Canadian sovereign and the ultrarare 1916-C Canadian sovereign, the 1914-C is an underrated issue, as legions of bidders flock to buy any examples offered at auction, far more elusive than the later issues such as 1917-C or 1919-C.

    Enjoy!

Simply superb; your coin has beautiful luster. A gold sovereign is the next coin on my list to purchase for sure :)

Thank you! It's quite a rewarding series. Many of the other sovereigns are underrated as well, but for some like the Australian issues, the question is: which ones?

Michael A. Marsh wrote the useful series reference, The Gold Sovereign, and the Quartermaster auction a few years ago (Monetarium) also contained some useful rarity rankings (and was a gorgeous catalog, to boot).
