Razz, that one reminded me of a few British Empire small silver coins I have run across. I tried to get the best photos I could.

Got this yesterday. Fresh to market PCGS MS64BN Farthing. Came from a small hoard of UNC examples found in an old desk drawer in central London. Picked this one against the other 15 examples. All in grades from 62BN to 65RB.

Looks like he still had some hair back in 1877, at least as portrayed on his coins.

    Not so much by 1908.

One of the things I really enjoy about collecting Franz Joseph is that he ruled for so long you can really see him age significantly. They generally refreshed his portrait every 10 years on coinage, but you can see some of the intermediate ages on medals and other art as well.

Here are a few selections from my collection to illustrate this:

This coin is dated 1855, but it is his earliest bust in use from 1852. He would be around 21 years old here. This is only a couple years after he ascended the throne (December of 1848).

This coin is from 1859, but this bust was in use on other coinage as early as 1857. He would be about 26 years old here, about 3 years after his marriage to Elisabeth.

    1867 - Age 37
Struck for his coronation as King of Hungary.

    1879 - Age 49
Struck to commemorate his 25th wedding anniversary.

    1890 - age 59

    1896 - age 65
    For the Hungarian Millennium.

    1900 - age 70

Dated 1913, but busts of him in this style date back to 1907, which would make him 77 here.

    1908 - age 78
To commemorate his 60th year of reign.

1915 - He died at age 86 in 1916. This bust is the style used on WWI patriotic medals and many of his death medals.

I am new to coin collecting.
I joined this forum today and wanted to post a thread.
I can not find out how to post a thread.
    Can someone tell me how?

Go to the forum you want to post a question on (this is the World Coin page for example, so if it's a world coin question this is the right place). Look for the 'post new topic' button. If it's not a world coin question backtrack (click on the forums tab) and find the right one.

I did not see the "post new topic button" when I went to the forum I wanted to post in US coins.

Picked these up in today's Baldwin's of St. Jame's Sale. Low-resolution seller photos. I will take better pictures when they get here.
