Another Half Crown to alleviate the constant SA coin fever I have. There’s always steep competition on eBay for all ZAR coins.
Picked this up this week. Having been there (though many years after this coin was minted) it has some sentimental value.
Here are a couple common coins I pulled out. The first has a nice die break on the reverse. Sweden 1942 CE 5 Ore Die Break on Reverse Norway 1940 CE 5 Ore
Love those Belgian coins with the lion. I have loads of them, though not many as nice as yours there...
That one looks just too perfect. Is it real, not new manufacture? Meaning no offense, of course. I have one also, much more beat up.
No offense is taken. Yes, it is genuine. It matches all of the die diagnostics according to Peck and has the same strike characteristics one would expect to see. I will be posting a short write up on the Tuppence later next week. I hope to highlight some of the key differences between the most commonly encountered deceptive modern counterfeits and genuine examples, such as the one I just posted.
The cameo designation is the real attraction here, tied for finest and 7 times more scarce than the same issue without cameo at NGC. (There are no ultra-cameos so far at either service). There are a pair of PR67-CAM at PCGS, but hard to imagine either is much nicer than this one.
