I see 1882 on that rupee, nice coin there. The Chinese Guang Dong coins, seems they should have some English words around the dragon, saying the province and denomination. My two similar coins do, though they lack a date.
It really depends on the coin. The Yunnan 50 cents I have do not other provinces did. Here is a graded example of the same style.
The history of when (WW1) and where (Berlin) this coin was minted is pretty heavy for such a small size.

That's a great first Thaler. I have Thalers (more than a few) but still haven't found the right one of these. It is also on my bucket list.
