DR has some nice coinage. Check out the 90% silver Indian Princess series, especially 25 centavos, 1/2 peso and peso. Lovely coins.

A recent purchase. A relatively common coin I would think based on the mintage. It has many differences to every image I can find of the coin. Maybe a contemporary forgery? The copper is very red. China -10 cash, 1911, Y#27.

I have been in the market for a Tiberius II Follis for a few years now. Most of the time what kept me away from getting one was the price or something shinier flashing my way so the money went elsewhere.

Recently our Ex. poster Ken Dorney posted some new coins at his shop and this was one of them. It was priced well & with a coupon I had, it was priced even better.

It does have a couple copper spots showing but I only cared about a full face & this had it.

So I am finally happy to knock this emperor off my Byzantine list. So many more to go....

This one has red flags for me as the portrait seems odd/off. the Characters seem off as well. That residue I often see among the counterfeit cast coins.

Yes, the portrait is more than a little off, it is completely different. The face, eyes, scales, claws, etc. are all different. The characters and rosettes on the reverse are clearly different with smaller characters. In hand the coin shows no signs of casting. What you are seeing as patina appears to me as patina.the color of the copper is something I see with some of my Sinkiang cash. Other images with different lighting.

With that said many warlords made contemporary counterfeits as you mentioned.

I don't think so....I had a riyal from hejaz and nedj once that was that size, but I am not an expert. Does Saudi Arabia issue commemorative coins?
