Yeah, there's a local store by work that sells this stuff for melt value. I had previously picked up a few Swiss 1, 2 & 5 Francs. Someone else bought the rest, but he had these Dutch, Mexican, & Filipinas coins. Is it worth it to dip the darker ones? Or am I just wasting $ buying the cleaner?
I didn't see a way to edit my post, but here is what I got. I started getting lazy with the dates and country names: 8 - 2.5 Guiders 1960 x3, 1963, 1966, 1961, 1959, 1939 3 Mexican Peso 1932 & 1924 x 2 1 100 Spanish Pesetas 1966 Canada Dollar 1966 Canada Half Dollar 1967 5 - Mexican 5 Pesos 19853 x 3, 1952, 1955 13 - Mexican 100 Pesos 11 x 1978, 2 x 1977 2 Mexican 25 Pesos Olympic 1968 6 Filipinas 50 cent pieces all 1944 6 Netherlands 1 guilder 4 x 1956, 1955, 1957 23 filipinas 20 cent pieces, various dates. 1 Cuban 20 cent, 1920 15 filipinas 10 cent, various dates 1932 Polish 2 ztotes Guatamala 1938 10 cents Guat 1953 10 cents Guat 1955 10 cents Jap sen? Picked up a large lot (83 coins) at yesterday's CNG sale. Normally, there is good stuff in these. Got it for the opening bid which makes me happy. Their pictures don't usually give much away. I also picked up a group of greek bronzes that looks promising.
Here are some new pickups of mine: 1687 Coronation of Joseph I as King of Hungary Gilded Bronze Medal 30mm A lovely coronation type for Joseph I - he was only 9 years old at the time of his coronation as King of Hungary. The 17th century is a bit earlier than I typically collect medals for, however, I especially like the reverse with the small shield of Hungary and the Holy Crown; the design of which would not look out of place on a medal struck 200+ years later. Hungary 1861B Kreuzer (Austria) KM-2186 NGC MS64 RB This is a Hungarian coin minted during the Austrian occupation period of 1849-1867, so it is cataloged as an Austrian type. A nice upgrade for me from an MS63 BN. Hungary 1867A Coronation of Franz Joseph I Mont. 2712 20mm Silver NGC MS65+ I collect coronation medals for Franz Joseph I; this series in particular, and this is a real condition rarity from what I have seen. Most of these jetons survived in the MS61-63 range.
These are 2 of 3 pieces I just picked up that are going to shut down my buying for quite a while. The 3rd piece I will post when it arrives and it is the best of the 3. #1 Brunswick Wolfenbuttel 1 Mariengroschen ca. 1665-1679 - Something about the Madonna and Child caught my attention. Plus it was only $16. Obverse: Value in three lines Reverse: Madonna and Child Composition: Silver Welter 1812 #2 Hapocrates Silver Medal ca.1748 Masonic ducat silver mark (1748) the Lodge Jonathan. Knyphausen 9333, HZC 26 Obverse: Harpocrates puts his finger on his mouth, next to him lion skin on a stump Reverse: arm coming out of clouds holds a set of scales over boulders Composition: Silver Diameter: 28. 22 mm Weight: 3.74 g #3 I will share when it arrives from across the pond. It will be worthy of its own thread.

I've owned a few Maurice Tiberius but both got bronze disease & I ended up parting with them. So I have been looking for a replacement for the third time & it looks like the third time is the charm. As usual, I picked this one very cheaply but the bonus is that this particular mint/year is pretty scarce. It also has a good provenance, Ed Waddell. I also happen to like this one more, better condition & sandy patina. My last 2 were the usual green. Maurice Tiberius (582 - 602 A.D. ) Æ Follis O: D N mAVRC TIber PP AV, helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, globus cruciger in right hand, shield in left hand. R: Large M, ANNO left and date right, cross above, Γ below, CON in exergue. Dated RY 9 (590/1) Constantinople mint 11.86g 32.6mm SBCV 494 Ex. Ed Waddell (11/1981)
I have been after coins of this type for some time. The 1913 DOA looks just a bit fishy to me, any opinions?
I'm not sure either way but I found NGC had a great example in hi-res which I've copied below. Hopefully someone can help identify the authenticity of your coin.
Here are some more that I've either acquired recently or finally took the time to reflip them and take photos. Dutch East Indies Present-day Indonesia 1858 - 2 1/2 Cents British East Africa Present-day Kenya and Uganda with bits of Zanzibar and Tanzania 1942 - 10 Cents Ireland 1946 - 1/2 Pingin Ghana 1958 - Six Pence Hungary 1958 - 10 Filler Hungary 1965 - 10 Filler Hungary 1966 - 20 Filler Zambia 1989 - 1 Kwacha Tanzania 1996 - 50 Cents
I am liking the Mombasa coin. Not sure if it is real or fake. In my 2004 World Coin catalog it has a weight of 11.6600 g. or .3438 oz. with .917 silver. mintage-94,000 I like the sun.
