This is the only recent pickup that I have images for. It's the photos from the listing. Everything else has been old school, face to face, purchases.
This one made my mailbox move a few weeks ago. A Heritage auction I had no intention of bidding in as I already have 2 super nice ones (plus one a slight step down). But, I logged on just as it was about to sell and the 'tarnish' looked to be interesting. Plus my biggest weakness is truly the Japanese double phoenix 50 sen. It can be blast white. It can be so toned as to get the NGC star...or this one in an ordinary straight slab. But boy, I liked the color and I 'needed' a coin to practice shooting color with .
My buddy went to the Singapore coin fair and was nice enough to bring me some gifts! A 2019 Mob of Roos coin with Merlion privy. First bullion coin to use this design. Mintage of 5,000. And then an oh so elusive NGC sample slab from the show.
A neighbor friend gave me a hand full of pocket change last night, from Australia and England. Love getting free coins this way!
1966 NGC MS63 star Canada toned 50 cents. sellers pics... for the toned Canadian 50 cent collection 1937-1968
I managed a few upgrades today from an album of old coppers bought at the market. 1775 Halfpenny - non-regal or contemporary counterfeit. (Weighs under 7g.) 1859 Copper penny - virtually the last year of the old heavy copper pennies before the switch to smaller bronze one. (Some coppers were made in 1860, but these are excessively rare before the bronze 1860s swamped the market.) 1887 Halfpenny - year of Victoria's Golden Jubilee. Not rare but nice to get such a good example.
Great story, and what a determined dude! I love Mel’s story. I’ve got a couple coins from El Cazaldor’s wreck, and they are awesome!
