Got this farthing as an upgrade today - 1855. Interesting variations - the obverse is type 2 with the WW raised on the truncation, and also has the very weak lower lip on the Queen's bust making it 2d. The reverse is type B, but the shamrock is detached and the serifs on the B of Britannia are largely missing, making it Bb.
I recently acquired a bag of foreign coins. Some I've figured out, some I have no clue. Any help on these 2? Thanks in advance.
2nd one is Swedish, the 3 crowns a dead giveaway. First one might be Iran or Iraq? Search on Numista is the best way for me to determine coins like that. The number on one side looks like a 50, image is upside down. So ask google "50 lion with sword numista" and see what comes up.
My pleasure. Sometimes when I get a coin which is really tough to identify I ask google "(country name) coin images numista", then scroll through them. If that doesn't work, I try another country. If I find a coin which looks similar, I can click on it and usually go to a page with more info. Here are a couple new arrivals. a 1864 Peru 1 centavo and a 1891 US dime.
Nice. There are alot of coins in the bag. I've seen German, Japan, British, gotta separate and see what's there.
Dutch coins from the 1700s can be had pretty cheaply. Maybe that's why I have so many of them! Copper and silver both.
So nothing too exciting, but this came in the mail today. Got it real cheap off the bay. Looks better in hand than in the photos. 1942 is the birth year of my mother, so has some special meaning to me.
1909 Belgium 1 frank. This one came the other day, I read some about Leopold II. Seems he was not known for being a real nice guy, claimed the whole Belgian Congo as a personal fiefdom and all the money from there became his.
1945-P Netherlands Indies 1 cent, 1/2 cent and 2 1/2 cent. P for Philadelphia mint. The 1 cent will be to go, as I have a better one on hand already. I love the war time coins minted for other countries in the US - All part of that huge, global effort to win WWII.
Just picked this up from a CNG auction. It's beautiful in hand. Lot description: ITALY, Papale (Stato pontificio). Clement XI. 1700-1721. AR Giulio (25mm, 2.96 g, 12h). Rome mint. Dated RY 14 (AD 1714/5). Coat-of-arms surmounted by crossed keys and tiara / St. Peter seated right, holding keys. Berman 2420; KM 755. VF, toned. Composition: Silver Fineness: 0.9000 Weight: 2.6900g
This 1784-A Paris Mint cost me $26 at a NY flea market. Not the Finest condition but Old enough to have many tales to tell.
2005 Madagascar (Malagasy Republic) 50 ariary. Coin looks better in hand, not such a good picture here. Love those baobab trees! Big coin 30 mm D.
