New pickup, a Royal Canadian Mint proof set from 1988. I love the ironworks commemorative dollar in this set.

I’m still not sure on this one. If it’s kosher I got a heck of a deal.

Not quite. 1813 is when the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm III had the An mein Volk proclamation published. The "Der König rief ..." text on the coin is taken from a poem written by Heinrich Clauren. That motto suggests that it was the king who asked his people for support of the fight against Napoleon. Well, it was almost the other way round. ;) Anyway, the war did not end until 1815 ...

    I stand corrected.

But it is a little strange indeed that no German state issued a commem in 1915 in memory of the Waterloo battle and the end of the Napoleonic Wars. In 1913 (same year as your Prussian coin) a 3 Mark piece from Saxony reminded of the 1813 "Battle of Leipzig".

In 1915 Germany issued - despite its new war against France - a few coins, even commems. Nothing about Napoleon and Waterloo though; that came from Belgium, 100 years later. ;)

Haven't been buying much lately but finally found the last date I needed for this set in a decent (and not overpriced) condition.

I like this year as it's one of those with overlap with the following design. Cupronickel and the first 5 sen not of silver.

Nice looking Hejaz & Nejd coin. I see a couple of differences on that coin from the images on Numista and The Standard Catalog.

Yep, bronze-plated nickel. 1988 was the second year for the Loon dollar - 1987-89 (young Elizabeth II) with reduced thickness planchets to 1.75mm starting in 1988.

Been sick (and tired) for a week (thanks to having plenty of rehearsals in a small room with a bunch of children for my very first Nutcracker performance) and lucked out into this piece by showing up at the LCS at the exact right time:

1916, 1918 & 1919 India Rupees for $6.67 each from my neighborhood coin shop today. I may give one to my 9 yr old son for his burgeoning collection for Christmas:

I am jealous and amazed at the price! They go for a lot more than that over here, generally back to India where there is a booming market in collecting their pre-independence stuff. I think I am right in saying those are all Bombay mint?

Wow, score! I see the dot at the bottom on the reverse, looks like Bombay mint mark to me. I checked my records and see I have paid a lot more for similar rupees.

Actually, I got them for $6.67 each ($20 for all three). These are the high mintage years for this type, but it's good to know there is a 'strong' market demand in India for them. This is one of those instances where I'm glad the shop is a block from my office and I decided to stop in today. I haven't yet checked on mint for the coins, though.

I pretty much buy any 'large' 90%+ silver world coins if the price is right. The pile I'm building right now makes me feel like a moderately successful pirate or Scrooge at the beginning of A Christmas Carol.
