Some new Aussie pickups. I like the pin, going to see if I can turn it into a something I can use on my suit. And can anyone guess why I was very excited to win the Aussie Penny lot for $25?
I picked these up this weekend. 1942 British Honduras 10 cent Mintage of 10,000, not high grade but pretty rare No Date (1927) China Memento dollar 1898-B British trade dollar with chop marks
I'm surprised you got it for that price. Usually someone catches onto that. Though once I bought a group of Mexican 5 centavos, and there was a 1942 that ranges from $25 to $75 or so book value in the lot and I think I got it all for a few dollars.
Things just slip by sometimes. I got my first 1925 for around $30 as well. I don't win big like this too often, but it feels good when it happens.
These are my three most favorite recent world coins. Something about the design of the coin art conveys the idea of power. I notice that the artist who designed the coin art doesn’t get to see his or her initials on the coin. An artist determined to see his initials on the coins he designed might change his name to Cheslav Camille Chernei Pucinski)
Two new keys I picked up this weekend: France - 1954 50 Francs KM 918.1 Mintage of 997,000 France - 1958 (w) 50 Francs KM 918.1 Mintage of 501,000 (Side note: these two remind me of an early moment in my coin collecting past. My grandparents had given me an old pastilles tin filled with 50, 20, and 10 Franc coins. Now, this being either pre-Internet (or very early stages of it) I didn't have an easy reference for information on value - and I can't remember where I saw that they were made of gold - but somehow I did. I thought I had a pound of gold coins! I went crazy dreaming of how rich I suddenly was. Then...well...reality struck. And I thought, "Well, at least I have like 800 Francs, which, at today's exchange rate, is..." Yep. Demonetized. At least I finally have two of the keys.)
Added 2 new Canadian proofs to the collection. Canada 1982 Proof Dollar, Regina Mintage 758,958 Canada 1984 Proof Dollar Mintage 161,602
A recent buy...one of the last for a bit (I'll post the budget buster eventually when it arrives). Jetons are not a common thing for me but couldn't pass up the sighthound motif.
I got this yesterday for $18.50. I don't collect these, but from looking at retail and sold prices at APMEX, Provident Metals and ebay, I appear to have gotten a good deal on it. There are more where this one came from, so I'd like everyone's opinion on what a dealer that knows the Aussie Lunar market would buy them for.
I was in the Vatican today, picked up this coin from the Vatican City Post Office. Here is the Coin pictured in the Piazza San Pietro with the dome in the background. '10th Anniversary of the Death of Pope John Paul II' Also 50c 2017 Euro Piece in Pope Francis Coin Card.
In case you care. I went back and bought the five remaining Lunar Series 1 coins the dealer had - Dragon, Snake, Wolf, Rooster and another Horse - for $18.50 each. Today, I went to my dealer in town and he bought all six Lunars for an average of $33.83 each. A very nice flip and just in time to add to the spending money for a local coin show at the beginning of November.
Besides, those are "old" francs. The franc of the 1950's was replaced by the (new) franc on 1-Jan-1960. So in nouveau franc terms, that amount was 8 francs ... Christian
Got this one in hand finally. What a unique denomination. Looks like a die crack on the obverse. And a possible Clash on the reverse?
