Thank you!! I'm really happy I found it. Hopefully you find one like it as well someday! I really need to read up on doubling and clashes. Apparently it is in fact the 1896/5 overdate as well, which is pretty cool.
All: If you haven't taken a close up look at this coin you should! Do whatever works for you to enlarge the images and then let your eyes feast on not only a ddo, but a ddr and.....an over date. The op sure enough got their money worth out of the specimen ....from a variety collectors view. Not knowing this series myself I cannot say if in fact this could be a discovery coin! Maybe another member here with more knowledge of this series can shed some light on this specimen . I have asked the op in a pm to compile the information he's found and perhaps make this coin a feature write up. My reason being this specimen would be a perfect example of doubled die coins as well as repunched and over dates for other members to study. Good catch***** you got a lot of bang for your buck! @SuperDave @Seattlite86 @heavycam.monstervam
Brutally doubled on the obverse, and clashed with equal brutality as well. Busy coin. The reverse is doubled too, and the clash was so hard that the reverse doubling is reproduced on the obverse. I didn't see the reverse doubling until the obverse clashing told me to look for it. There is some really astounding hub doubling to be found on World coins, stuff that would be the most significant known for the issue on an equivalent US coin.
For some reason the tag didn't work, but that's one heck of a coin; thanks for letting me know! I love finding world coins with doubling
Just won this Saudi Arabia 4 pound coin at HA. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint to exchange for Saudi oil rights. Per the reverse inscription, contains a net gold weight of 452 grains, equivalent to four British sovereigns. One of the few gold coin issues struck by the U.S. Mint during the era when private gold ownership was illegal. MS 61
I guess everyone has to like something. That one /\ is not my cup of tea.... Sorry but my wants run to...
Hawkeye strikes again Seriously though nice coin and i love old peso. The obverse doubling wow! The date does have something going on but i cant figure out what the umderlying numeral would be. Interesting coin though, and i would be curious as to who authenticates world coins?
1837 Sovereign....King William IIII Last year of reign....I like the shield on the reverse. Seller's pics
